The Worshipful Company of Butchers and City Livery Events

Court & Livery Lunch, March 2025

Join us at Butchers' Hall for our March Court Lunch when the guest speaker will be Colonel Jane Carey-Harris TD DL VR.

Jane had always held an interest in the Army and aged 22 she joined 217 (London) General Hospital RAMC (V) and was commissioned as a Theatre Sister. She remained with this Unit until its amalgamation with other units to become 256 (City of London) Field Hospital (V), where she commanded the Clinical Squadron in 2005. She deployed on Operation Telic (Iraq) in 2003 as the Senior Theatre Nurse. Jane was promoted to Colonel on appointment as Commanding Officer of 306 Hospital Support Medical Regiment (V) in 2010. In 2012 Jane was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II as a Territorial Army Queen’s Honorary Nurse.

Jane is a keen supporter of City life. She was admitted to the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in 2007, one of only seven nurses then, to be admitted in their 400 year history. She joined The Guild of Nurses at its formation and has served as the Chair of the Membership Committee. She is also an Honorary Freeman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers, in recognition of her late husband being their Foundation Clerk.

Jane has served as a Marshall at the Lord Mayor’s Show for many years.

She is qualified in both dinghy and offshore sailing, and represented the Army Medical Services and the Army in these sports. She is a qualified Joint Services Alpine Ski Instructor and participated at Army Medical Services ski meetings, in addition to representing the Unit at orienteering and cross country. Her hobbies also include bowls, learning to play the saxophone and walking in the Kent countryside. Her charitable and voluntary activities include being a Trustee to two Almshouses in Canterbury, being an active member of the Royal British Legion and serving as a member of various military committees.

Jane was appointed as Deputy Lieutenant for Kent in 2023.

We look forward to hearing from her in March.
