Planned train strikes did not stop the September Court Lunch being an almost full house and ahead of this month’s Rugby World Cup we were delighted to welcome Mark Lambert, Head of Rugby Policy for the Rugby Players’ Association as our Guest Speaker.
Following a splendid pork ribeye, kindly supplied by Owen Taylor & Son and at his last Court Lunch before Common Hall, Master Past Master Andrew Parker presented Dementia UK with a cheque for £20,000 from the proceeds raised at the 2023 Master’s Charity Ball.
The Master also thanked the Clerk for all his invaluable help and support throughout the year.
Paying tribute to Andrew Parker, Past Master Graham Baker thanked The Master for all his efforts throughout the year in what continues to be a challenging time for the Livery.
Proposing the guests at this lunch was Liveryman, Olly Kohn – a former rugby player himself and friend of the principal speaker, Mark Lambert.
Fellowship, friendship and team players in triumph and adversity meant butchers and rugby teams made a great match according Mark in his light hearted but nonetheless sincere address after lunch.
The Master's of the Ironmongers' and Girdlers' Companies also joined us for what was a most enjoyable and celebratory occasion.
Gold Award Winner 2023
Each year the WCB Gold Award is presented to a Liveryman who has performed tirelessly for the benefit of the Butchers' Company. Nominated and selected by the Court, the Award is the chance to publicly recognise and congratulate someone who stands out from the rest.
This year the accolade was presented to Liveryman, Pam Brook. A citation was read out by The Clerk, which was presented by The Master to Pam, together with a commemorative pin. She received an emotional standing ovation and said: “It was an honour to be presented with this award and on the day left me feeling most humble and overwhelmed. Thank you so much.”
