Anna Lampitt is the 2019 winner of the Gary Baker Award following a hotly competed interview process at the end of November. Anna is in her final year at Harper Adams University studying for BSc with Honours in Food Production and Marketing.
She spent her placement year as a Progressive McDonald’s Young Farmer where she had a chance to see and experience all aspects of the supply chain.
As someone who had no previous on-farm experience, she was able to get involved in the practical side of livestock production, as well as work further down the supply chain with the teams involved in primary and secondary processing.
She also spent time at McDonald’s headquarters with teams involved in product development and logistics.
On completion of her degree, Anna plans to work in the meat industry and is seeking entry to one of the graduate trainee schemes of one of the major meat companies.
She accepts that the industry is facing many challenges at the moment, but this only strengthens her motivation to work in the sector.
Some of the money she receives from gaining the award is to be spent on participating with the WCB Young Butchers’ Club.
The Gary Baker Award was established to honour the memory of the late Gary Baker. The endowment through which the Award is made is in the gift of the Baker Family and is administered by The Worshipful Company of Butchers.
