UK Sausage Week kicks off with celebration lunch at Butchers’ Hall
Published on: 30 October 2019
Butchers’ Hall was where it all started for UK Sausage Week this year, with our home chosen as the venue to host the important celebration lunch and awards, which is organised by Meat Management magazine.
Celebrity chef, Lesley Waters presented the winners with their awards, including the coveted UK Supreme Sausage Champion accolade, which went to Morgan’s Country Butchers for its Traditional Shropshire Pork Sausage.
The winning sausage uses Darren Morgan’s 30-year-old recipe and has already resulted in huge publicity, including a live television appearance on ITV’s This Morning show.
Around 500 different sausages were entered into the competition and were judged back in September at The Regional Food Academy, Harper Adams University, by Liveryman and Institute of Meat CEO Keith Fisher, Q Guild of Butchers manager Claire Holland and members of Ladies In Pigs (LIPS).
The Worshipful Company of Butchers is pleased to be an official partner of UK Sausage Week and Master, Tim Dumenil presented the award for England: South West at the lunch. The Traditional category was won by Walter Rose & Son for their Walter Rose Old English Pork Sausage, while the Innovative category was for the Fruity Curry Pork Sausage produced by Tim Potter Son and Daughter.
The feedback from guests about the new Hall and its refurbishment was overwhelmingly positive and Liveryman, Graham Yandell was enthusiastic about Butchers’ Hall and our Livery during his welcome speech.
The week-long sausage celebration sees UK butchers, manufacturers, associations and retailers all creating their own sausage events, competitions, promotions and tastings, to celebrate UK Sausage Week.
